Grateful, a few days late

To be clear, I’ve been grateful the entire time, it’s just the post that’s a few days late. 🙃 Whoops.

Isn’t it odd we have just one day of thankfulness, immediately followed by a day of full on consumerism? Personally, I’m with REI…#optout, although Amazon threw a wrench in that one by hosting a Black Friday football game midday. 😅 I think it’s important to try to be grateful as often as possible, even on the days that are hard.

Anyhow, my favorite day the whole weekend is Small Business Saturday. The Seward Chamber of Commerce does a wonderful job of hyping up the day, and hosts a scavenger hunt throughout the local businesses. If you visit a business and snap a picture of the participation card you gain points, and along bonus points if you include a picture of your receipt.

Guess who spent a bunch of dough at our local businesses, and won?

My competitive nature definitely kicked in, and I hope I inspired a few others in the contest to stop by more businesses than they originally planned to visit. I know I did! I even went into a shop I’ve never stopped by, even though it’s been open for four years. How does someone living in a small town go so long without visiting most businesses at some point? Dunno, but it happened. 😝

I digress, for a person who complained about consumerism, that was a fair amount of chatter about consumerism(at least it was local?) 😂 I am grateful. 2023 was my fourth year of ownership. I had a wonderful staff, once again. We had another summer exploring with wonderful travelers. I have amazing friends in my life. My family is happy, and healthy. I get to spend 8 days on a Disney cruise on my first aunt/niece trip with the only kid in our family (all my kids are seasonal.) Btw, I am a kid before Christmas excited about this cruise. I. can’t. wait. 🛳️

Still with me? I’m also grateful for you. 🙏 I hope you have a million reasons to feel grateful too.

Until next time,

Stephanie
