Wait…what? It’s September already? But…HOW?

Every year, I’m blown away by how time works in Seward. This is truly a magical place, where one minute it can feel like it’s going to take forever for summer to come, but then in a blink of an eye, it’s over.

Just about 15 minutes ago I was marveling about how it was almost the 4th of July, and then BAM! It’s September! I’m convinced August was just one really long day of rain, contributing to the illusion.

But, I can’t deny fall is upon us. The sun is rising later, making for some spectacular colors on the clouds.

The bears have been in my neighborhood fattening up on berries (and sleeping in trees.)

And, we’re running fewer tours and fewer people are in town.

I’m not ready. 😢

I’m not ready for this fabulous crew of smiling faces to leave.

September is always a bit melancholy for me. You may not know, but virtually my entire crew lives on my property, in various structures scattered around my front yard, like a summertime extended family. Chances are the second I step out the door of my home I’m going to run into someone.

It’s hard to get to know such great people only to see them leave, without a guarantee any of them are coming back. This year in particular is hard because this group of people are especially tremendous.

But the fact that I had the chance to know them at all, even if it’s just for a few short months, reminds me how grateful I am to be a part of Sunny Cove Kayaking, and the community of Seward.

But then, I have a feeling I’ll see a lot of the crew back for 2023, and when spring arrives in Seward, I’ll be super stoked to see so many familiar faces, along with a few new ones.

And then, I’ll have even more people to consider as a friend. 😍

Until next time,

Stephanie
