GRAND DAY - WILDLIFE CRUISE & GLACIER KAYAK TOUR

Imagine a day of incredible marine wildlife viewing and kayaking through bergy bits toward a calving tidewater glacier - this is our Grand Day Wildlife Cruise & Glacier Kayak Tour!  Aialik Bay is home to both the amazing Holgate and Aialik Glaciers.  After we are dropped off near one of these glaciers, we will kayak along the rugged coastline through blue-green sea waters and crackling ice as close as 1/2 mile from the towering face of the glacier. As your paddle dips into the water the sound of bergy bits bumping your kayak, the thunder of the calving glacier and gulls calling out overhead will bedazzle your senses. This is the true Alaska kayaking experience!

Route

Our day begins at the Seward Boat Harbor where we board a charter boat for the 55 mile trip around the Cape to Aialik Bay and our launch beach.  We'll spend the next half hour getting you outfitted with kayaking gear and running through basic kayaking instruction on the beach.  After instruction we'll have about 2.5 hours (2-4 miles) of kayaking along the rugged shoreline and calving glacier.  Along the way we'll take a break to absorb the sights, sounds and sensations of floating near an actively calving tidewater glacier.

Our Grand Day Tours regularly sell out well in advance.  Booking early is important since charter boat space is limited in Seward.  Last minute reservations are almost impossible to accommodate.

Departure Times

7:30am - 5:30pm Daily - space available basis

Your day will begin with a wildlife cruise aboard a small charter boat whose captain will transport you to Aialik (eye-al-ick) Bay.  During the 55-mile journey from the Seward Small Boat Harbor we'll watch for humpback whales, orca, sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, bald eagles, porpoise and more. Upon reaching Aialik Bay we'll paddle amidst some of the most spectacular scenery Alaska.
