Grand Day - Wildlife Cruise & Glacier Kayak Tour

Imagine a day with incredible marine wildlife viewing, kayaking along a rugged shoreline and calving Alaska tidewater glacier viewing, this is our Grand Day Wildlife Cruise & Glacier Kayak tour!  Aialik Bay is home to both the amazing Holgate and Aialik Glaciers.  After we are dropped off by our charter boat near one of these glaciers, we will kayak through bergy bits, growlers and blue-green sea waters as we bring you as close as 1/2 mile from the towering face of either Holgate or Aialik glacier. As your paddle dips into the water the sound of bergie bits bumping your kayak, the thunder of the calving from the glacier and gulls calling out overhead will bedazzle your senses. This is the true Alaska kayaking experience. All of our trips are fully guided and use stable and efficient tandem (two-person) kayaks allowing both novices and aspiring experts to kayak comfortably.

7:30 am - 5:00 to 6:00 pm: Your day will begin with a wildlife cruise aboard a small charter boat whose captain will transport you to Aialik (eye-al-ick) Bay.  During the 55-mile journey from Seward we'll watch for humpback whales, orca, sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, bald eagles, porpoise and more. Upon reaching Aialik Bay we'll paddle amidst some of the most spectacular scenery Alaska has to offer at either Holgate or Aialik glacier.  This excursion includes charter boat transportation, picnic-style lunch, beverages and snacks. We provide kayaking guide and gear including rubber boots, pogies and dry bag.  Children 8 and up are welcome to paddle with an adult in our two person kayaks.

7:30 am:  Meet your guide.  Location information will be included in your confirmation.
8:00 am:  Depart on the charter boat for the 55 mile wildlife and glacier trip to Aialik Bay.
11:00 am- 2:00pm: Kayaking instruction on the beach then kayaking for approximately 2.5 hours and 2-4 miles among the bergie bits of either Holgate or Aialik Glacier. Picnic lunch.
4:30 pm - 5:30 pm: Approximate time of return to Seward.  Arrival time is dependent upon wildlife viewing, weather conditions and boat speed.

A client-information form is required from all participants four weeks prior to our departure date. The information requested in this form will help your guides accommodate any special food or medical needs.

Remember, Sunny Cove does not cancel tours solely due to rain. Sea kayaking is an experience that can be fun rain or shine. We are looking forward to having a spectacular Alaskan adventure with you!
