Staff Spotlight – Stephanie Millane

Stephanie is from the cheese state of Wisconsin and has been working for Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking since 2006 and currently serves as the operations manager. Here are some fun facts about Stephanie!

Favorite TV Show: Battlestar Gallactica (the new one!)

Favorite Sports Team: United States Ski Team

Favorite Book: Anything Sci-fi/fantasy. Currently loving the Ender’s Game series.

Favorite Sunny Cove Guide: Danny...hands down.

Best Life Experience: Too many! Let's see...Watching a female Orca rub on the side of a boat for an hour. Every day with my best friend/partner RC. Being stalked by Sea Lions that kept swimming right under my kayak in early season when the water was still clear. Traveling by car across the country. Kayaking the Beardslee Islands in Glacier Bay and waking up to dozens of breaching humpbacks just off the shore. Reeling in my first halibut. I could keep going…

Best Alaska Experience: Honestly my favorite (amongst many) experience happened while traveling to AK for the first time. I was in a plane headed to Anchorage, had never been to Alaska and at 24 years old hadn't a clue what I was getting myself into. About half way through the red-eye flight I looked out the window and the Aurora was going off. I'd only seen the lights once before, and only faint greens. These lights were seemingly eye-level and every color. It was like getting a 'welcome to Alaska!' gift. I fell in love instantly...and have never stopped coming back. That was 1998...

Swiftwater Rescue I
Wilderness First Responder
CPR Adult/Child/Infant
Alaska Tour Guide Instructor

Why do you love to guide? I love that Alaska is a huge, natural text book full of questions begging to be answered. I'm a naturally inquisitive person who loves to share knowledge and guiding is a perfect fit for my personality. Guiding allows me to live a dream everyday and to meet people from all over the world.

Number one item of bucket list: Live full-time in Alaska with my partner.

Personal Statement: Do what you say you're going to do. ;)
