We like to hire guides from a variety of locations and for this staff spotlight, we pulled one from the deep, deep south! Hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, Mary Kate Groark is in her second season with Sunny Cove. Her favorite topic to talk about on trips is the tides because she will annoyingly yell out Roll Tide over and over (its an Alabama thing). Mary Kate, MK for short, spent the winter working at an outdoor program in California between trips to Thailand and Vietnam, and backpacking parts of Utah and Arizona. Up next for MK?? Checking off climbing a few mountains in Nepal.
MK said her Alaskan spirit animal is the humpback whale, but didn’t say why so we are just going to assume its because she enjoys having barnacles attached to her body. She is known around Seward for being dangerously fast at card games involving quick reflexes and for being ridiculously slow at saying goodbye when out with friends. MK enjoys the guiding world because she loves being outside and sharing beautiful experiences with others. MK excels at providing a great experience for her guests so if you want top notch service, come join MK on the water! Just buffer some time at the end of the trip…the goodbye may take an hour.
