Tonsina Point Kayak & Exploration

This family friendly fully guided sea kayak combo trip is perfect for those who wish to explore both the waters and temperate rain forests of Seward's Resurrection Bay at a relaxing pace. On this trip we commonly encounter sea otters, sea birds, bald eagles and leaping salmon. Depending on tides and water conditions, we may take a short walk to a hidden waterfall, tide-pool or walk the beaches of Tonsina Point, or sea kayak a short distance up Tonsina Creek looking for spawning salmon. The pace of this tour is ideal for those who would like time to relax into their surroundings whether it be a beautiful waterfall, sitting on washed-up driftwood on the beach or walking through the moss laden forest.  All of our trips are fully guided and use stable and efficient tandem (two-person) kayaks allowing both novices and aspiring experts to kayak comfortably.

9:00 am to 3:00 pm: Our day begins just two miles south of Seward at our Lowell Point gear shed where we meet and check in by 8:45 am. After outfitting and sea kayak instruction we'll paddle the shoreline of Lowell Point State Recreation Site surrounded by mountains and glacial vistas. As we glide through the waters we'll look for the graceful movements of the harbor porpoise or the industrious sea otters diving for their lunch. We'll explore Tonsina Point with its ghost forest, late-season salmon stream and beautiful mountain views from its beach. Enjoy a beach-side picnic lunch and possibly a visit to a waterfall. This excursion includes lunch, beverages and snacks.  Children 8 and up are welcome to paddle this excursion with an adult in our two person kayaks.
