Caines head kayak & hike combo
This trip is a great opportunity to combine both hiking and sea kayaking for those looking for an active adventure. While kayaking we'll watch for sea otters, sea lions, porpoise, eagles and sea birds. Our day will include either a hike up to Fort McGilvray, an abandoned subterranean World War II military fort or the exploration of a hidden waterfall. This is an active day including up to 10 miles of kayaking and five miles of hiking with a 650 foot elevation gain and loss. All of our trips are fully guided and use stable and efficient tandem (two-person) kayaks allowing both novices and aspiring experts to kayak comfortably.
8:30 am to 4:30 pm: Our day begins just two miles south of Seward at our Lowell Point gear shed where we meet and check in at 8:15 am. After outfitting and kayak instruction we paddle the shoreline of Caines Head State Recreation Area. As we kayak quietly, surrounded by mountains and glacial vistas, we watch for wildlife and birds. We land mid-day and enjoy our picnic lunch shore side before beginning our hike to a beautiful waterfall or underground Fort McGilvray for an overview of Resurrection Bay. Children 12 and up are welcome to paddle this excursion with an adult in our two-person kayaks.
