overnight kayaking trip gear list

This list is based on what is needed for a three day overnight trip. Be sure to make adjustments if you are participating in a two, four, or five day excursion. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Clothing

  • Light-weight synthetic underlayers-2 pair
  • Expedition-weight synthetic underlayers-1 pair
  • Synthetic t-shirt
  • Quick drying long pants
  • Fleece or synthetic jacket
  • Waterproof jacket and pants (water resistant won't keep you dry for several days)
  • Wool or synthetic socks-4 pair
  • Neoprene or fishing gloves (waterproof) for paddling
  • Warm gloves for camp
  • Insulated hat
  • Ball cap or other hat with a visor
  • Camp shoes (hiking or tennis)

Cotton clothing, denim jeans and other water absorbent layers MUST BE AVOIDED. These materials will not keep you warm when wet. Layering and synthetic materials are your best bet.

Other

  • Sunglasses with a strap
  • Spare glasses, if needed
  • Spare contacts, if needed
  • Sunscreen, lip balm and toiletries (ODOR FREE...we'll be camping in bear country)
  • Wet wipes
  • Medications, if needed (please inform your guide of any medications)

Equipment

  • Sleeping bag (synthetic only-NO DOWN, can be rented from Sunny Cove)
  • Sleeping pad (can be rented from Sunny Cove)
  • Three or four season tent (waterproof, available from Sunny Cove, if needed)
  • Water bottle, 1 quart or larger
  • Pocket knife
  • Headlamp

Extras

  • Camera and spare battery
  • Reading material
  • Journal and pen
  • Bug repellent
  • Binoculars

Baggage you will not need on your kayak trip may be stored with Sunny Cove. Sunny Cove does not have a secured storage space. Valuables should be taken with you or stored elsewhere. Sunny Cove assumes no responsibility for damage or loss to personal belongings that are stored on any of our premises or taken on any Sunny Cove tours.
