A Day in the Life of a Guide: Comp Trips!

When visiting cities that focus on tourism, you have several options to choose from when deciding what fun activities to do. Here in Seward, you can go kayaking, hiking, boating, fishing, zip lining, dog sledding, paddle boarding, ice climbing, the list goes on and on. While various companies can be viewed as competition to each other, most people do multiple activities when they visit our town so there is a unique partnership with the various tourist groups to spread the word about each other; comp trips!
Getting ready to zip line!

A comp (complimentary) trip is a free trip offered to other local guides in the area. For example, if someone traveling into Seward goes on a dog sledding tour and asks their guides what other fun things there are to do in town, we want them to recommend Sunny Cove! And so we allow their guides to come paddle with us for free to learn more about what we do to be able to better talk about and recommend our company to their guests.

Amanda and I (pictured here) are both kayak guides in town and with our free afternoon, decided to check out the new zip line course in Seward. This is definitely a great perk for guides as many of our days off are spent checking out the other fun activities in town and we get to do them for free! Jealous?!
