Staff Spotlight: Joseph Dean (JD)

Joseph Dean, JD for short, is one of our two guides that represent the great state of Iowa. Where is Iowa you ask? That is a great question! After spending time in the United States military (thank you for your service JD!), JD moved back to Iowa where he is currently attending the University of Northern Iowa located somewhere in Iowa which is located somewhere. JD is known to be the biggest Chicago Cubs fan in Alaska. In fact, he actually tried to legally change his name to Joseph Cubs, but wasn't a fan of being called JC when he gave the name a test run and so he decided to keep Dean as his middle name. JD is a first year guide and pumped to be in Alaska. Here's some more fun info about Joseph Dean!

Number one item of bucket list: Making and mommy and daddy proud of me.

Best Life Experience: Meeting fellow guide and Cubs fan Bobby!

Best Alaskan Experience: Making a bet with Bobby to see who sees an orca first and having to listen to him tell me the story over and over and over again of how he saw one first and how close it got. Every time he tells the story it gets closer and closer and by the end the orca was driving the boat. Oh the memories that aren't even mine...

Why I love to guide: Gets me away from the corn fields of Iowa.

Random fact: I didn't know how to make a tuna fish sandwich until I was 21 and I still mess up the milk ration in mac and cheese.

Personal Statement: "Never forget who you are and where you came from and who brought you into this world. Without that wouldn't be where you're at today" ~ JD
